The planning of Biella Città Arcipelago started in May 2019, with the aim of triggering a process of regeneration of Biella’s social and cultural fabric, through the active involvement of urban and peripheral communities, with constant reference to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Contact usIt is a participatory territorial planning laboratory oriented towards sustainable prosperity and creativity. It has been developed with the contribution of Fondazione BIellezza and in connection with local institutions, as part of the programme of Biella Città Creativa UNESCO and of the Festival Arcipelago. All the local organizations are invited to actively participate in drafting a program of concrete actions aimed at the rebirth of Biella region.
The Biellese area is made up of a conspicuous number of urban agglomerations, immersed in a green sea of woods, mountains and fields, branching out over five valleys nourished by the waterways that have favoured the development of the textile industry. These geomorphological specificities give the province of Biella the characteristics of "Archipelago City", a territory in which the countryside connects the inhabited centres in an urbanistic model of great interest, even more in the scenarios of the pandemic and the Anthropocene. This connection is sanctioned by the UNESCO designation with the symbol of the Third Paradise, which represents the creative and harmonious conjunction of the opposite kingdoms of nature and artifice.
Biella Città Arcipelago Demopratico exhibition is located in a space regenerated by the Pistoletto Foundation and called basement. It is conceived as an urban center, that is, a center open to citizens and serving the city, dedicated to reflection and planning for urban regeneration.
Biella Città Arcipelago Demopratico has been developed with the contribution of Fondazione BIellezza and in connection with local institutions, as part of the programme of Biella Città Creativa UNESCO and of the Festival Arcipelago.
Fondazione BIellezza was established in February 2020 on the initiative of private individuals, with the aim of making a concrete contribution to the future development of the Biella area, in particular through a decisive increase in the number and length of stay of incoming tourists and, in so doing, contributing to a sustainable growth of the area and to improving the quality of life of its residents.
