The Biella Beekeepers’ Association was founded in 2010 as a continuation of the historic Association of Biella and Vercelli.
With over 200 members operating mainly in the Biella area, its aim is to promote the growth of beekeeping as an activity of national interest, beneficial for the conservation of the natural environment, the ecosystem and agriculture in general, as enshrined in Article 1 of Law No. 313 of 24 December 2004, ‘Regulation of Beekeeping’.
It carries out a wide range of activities to achieve this aim:
Courses, Conferences and Publications
- for beekeepers, with the aim of promoting the most advanced methods of bee husbandry and techniques for combating diseases and adverse conditions
- for consumers, to raise awareness of the benefits of honey and other bee products (pollen, royal jelly, beeswax, propolis, etc.).
Protection and promotion of local produce through the “Miele Biellese” Quality Mark, registered with the Ministry of Economic Development
Management of educational apiaries at the “Nuraghe Chervu” Monumental Site in Biella on Corso Lago Maggiore and in Cerrione within the Bessa Nature Reserve. The Biella apiary, known as the “Oasi delle Api” (Bee Oasis), managed in collaboration with the Sado Cultural Society “Su Nuraghe”, is housed within a “flight cage” and also serves as a venue for guided tours for school groups and visitors, allowing them to observe the life of bees and their wonderful world in complete safety through large windows.
